Orange Creamsicle With A Kick

Tomorrow is National Grand Marnier Day and this is the perfect cocktail after a hot day to cool off with! Back in the old days when I ran the dining room at the Charter House Restaurant down by St. Pete Florida, I would end my evening with a nice glass of brandy and once in awhile have a glass of Grand Marnier. Haven’t had any in a long time now and maybe that will have to change when we get to town next time! Of course there were times I would just add a little something in my coffee like Kahlua just to take the edge off of a long, busy evening of taking care of some very uppity patrons, you know the kind, the ones you can never please no matter what you do!

Of course, I did meet some very well known people when I was there, from actors, a military spy whose name slips from my mind right now, but if I could recall it, you would know who I was talking about, well if you are old enough like me! I also met an ex-football player who played for the Washington Redskins who I actually dated a couple of times, before I met husband of course. The Charter House Restaurant was also where parts of the film, Summer Rental, was filmed although I didn’t work there at the time but one of the actors I did meet was Rip Torn who played Scully in the movie. I’m getting a little too carried away here so on with the drink because it’s almost beer-o-clock here!

Orange Creamsicle With A Kick
  • 1-1/2 oz vodka
  • 1 teas Grand Marnier
  • Fresh squeezed juice from 2 oranges
  • 1 oz half and half
  • 1 tbsp very fine sugar
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender with one cup of crushed ice and blend until nice and frothy.
  2. Garnish with orange slices.


Kick back and have a drink on the house………..enjoy!

Almond Ice Tea

I’m killing a few birds with one stone today as the month of June is National Iced Tea Month along with National¬† Fruit Month and Lemon Month but I will be going back and forth with more recipes during the month to cover these. Today is also National Hazelnut Cake Day and I am in need of a sweet treat this week to share with our visiting kids. I’m on the hunt for my mom’s recipe for this cake and all I have found so far is her hazelnut cookies that she used to make, but I’ll keep searching! On with some tea, one of my all time favorite drinks next to beer of course!

Almond Ice Tea
  • 1 gallon hot tea, brewed to desired strength (I use decaf)
  • 1-1/3 cups sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups fresh orange juice
  • 1-1/2 cups fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teas vanilla extract
  • 3 teas almond extract
  1. Combine the hot tea and the sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Let cool slightly and add the juices and extracts.
  3. Cover and refrigerate until icy cold and serve over ice with orange and lemon slices.


Great refresher after being out in the sun or for just any old time…………..enjoy!
