Today we’ll be talking more about life here on the ranch other than cooking, but I still have a short quick recipe to share!
Kenny has become a vaping king as of Saturday and has not had a cigarette since then, yeah! And yes, now it’s my turn. We did want to see how he liked it before I tried it and I think I’ll be happy too. We both grew up with families that smoked so it was kind of a natural for us to follow suit; things were a lot different back in those days and smoking was easily accepted. I can even remember my mom’s doctor lighting up in his office when I was just a youngster and my mom smoking right up until her passing when she was in her 80’s!
Since getting our chickens, our resident hawk that we call Lady Hawk after one of our favorite movies, has been visiting quite a bit lately. Kenny got a pretty good shot of her the other day sitting on our fence. Granddaughter said she was probably there to steal our Easter Egger chicken to take home to feed her young as this is the time of year that she should have hungry babies to feed! What nerve!!
Last but not least……….. Got a surprise visit today from our granddaughter and family so I got to visit with our great-grandson Ulric. He is soooo big already, a whopping 22 pounds and just a tad over 9 months old! This old gram even had a hard time picking him up. He is such a happy baby too and a delight to have around with his big smile. He is also learning a lot of different words like doggy and bye-bye. Just wish they lived closer so we could see him more often!
Now with just a quick, easy idea to spice up your fries and are ever so good with chili dogs. I used my own homemade taco seasoning and they were delicious; husband didn’t even use ketchup, a first for him I must say. I have been a little recipe shy since my homemade banana custard pie last week that turned out to be a tee-total disaster that it wasn’t even fit to feed any of the animals! My custard would not thicken up for me and decided to slop it in the pan anyway and throw it in the freezer to firm up. It froze up all right and as soon as it started to thaw so you could bite into it, it became a runny, nasty mess! Needless to say, I didn’t try anything new for the rest of the week.

Well, hopefully will be more productive in the kitchen this week especially with Easter on its way and some of the family to enjoy it with
