Spiced Up Shepherd Pie

Since it’s National Hamburger Month thought I would throw this one out there!


1/2 cup minced onion
1/2 cup finely diced celery
2 tbsp oil
1-1/2 lbs ground chuck
1/2 cup beef broth
1 cup grated carrot
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teas sea salt
1/2 teas fresh ground pepper
4 large potatoes
1/4 cup chopped, fresh chives
Melted butter


Cook potatoes until tender, mash and stir in the chives (some bacon bits are good too). While potatoes are cooking, saute the onions and celery in the oil until onion is transparent in color. Add the beef and cook until browned, crumbling it as it cooks; drain off fat. Add the next 6 ingredients and mix well; simmer for 30 minutes over low heat. Pour mixture into a deep-dish pie plate; top with the mashed potatoes, brush potatoes with melted butter and sprinkle on some paprika. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 35-45 minutes or until heated through. Enjoy with some nice hot rolls!
