Crisco Icing

Here’s a little different icing to make next time you make a cake. My mom used to always use Crisco when I was young…..

1 cup milk
3 tbsp cake flour
1/8 teas salt
1 cup sugar
1 cup Crisco
1 teas vanilla

In a saucepan, blend a little of the milk with the flour to make a paste and while stirring add the remaining milk and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened and free of lumps. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature, this is very important as you do not want to add the other ingredients to the hot mixture. In a bowl, combine the sugar, Crisco and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy. Add the flour mixture and beat again until nice and creamy. Who said you can’t have your cake and eat it too!
