Hot Dog Cabbage Bake

This is very different to me, but what the hey, never too old to try something new….


1 lb hot dogs
1 large head of cabbage
1 ½ teas salt
¼ cup butter
1/3 cup chopped onion
¼ cup flour
2 cups milk
¼ cup dill pickle relish
3 tbsp prepared mustard


Cut cabbage into 6 wedges and place in a large saucepan with enough water to cover and cook for 5 minutes. Drain and place in a casserole dish in a single layer, sprinkling ½ teaspoon of the salt over the top. Melt butter in the saucepan and add the onion and cook until onion is transparent in color. Blend in the flour and remaining salt and stir to make smooth. Add the milk and cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in the relish and mustard and pour over the cabbage. Cut the hot dogs in half crosswise and place between the cabbage wedges. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes and enjoy!
