Apple Butter

Perfect time of year for this recipe and it’s so good on toast in the morn!

2 qts apple cider
4 lbs granny smith apples
3 cups sugar, more or less
¼ teas cinnamon
¼ teas allspice
1/8 teas ground cloves
1 teas salt

Peel, core and slice apples and put into a crock pot along with the cider. Cover and cook on low setting for 10-12 hours without stirring. Rub the apples through a sieve. Measure the amount of apple you have and add an equal amount of sugar, such as 4 cups of apple to 4 cups of sugar. Place back into the crock pot, add the remaining ingredients, cover and cook on low for another hour. Pour into clean, dry, ½ pint canning jars. Seal and process in a boiling water bath or store in the frig. Makes around 4 or 5 pints and is a nice gift to give to a neighbor or friend for Christmas!!!!
